ASVAB Questions

The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is a test that measures ones aptitude. Aptitude is how well you do something.  A common mistake by a lot of people is thinking that this test is an IQ test.  This test is the furthest thing from it!

The ASVAB test is broken down into 4 main categories.  The 4 categories are Word Knowledge, Arithmetic Reasoning, Paragraph Comprehension, and Mathematics Knowledge.

After breaking the test down into 4 main categories we can now break the test down even further into 9 sub categories. The sub categories are Word Knowledge, Arithmetic Reasoning, Mechanical Comprehension, Automotive and Shop Information, Electronics Information, Mathematics Knowledge, General Science, Paragraph Comprehension, and Assembling Objects.

Word Knowledge will test how well you know the meanings of words in context. Another thing you have to do in this section is you have to use synonyms and antonyms.

Arithmetic Reasoning will test your ability to handle simple math and it will test your problem solving skills.  Don’t worry, you won’t have to go back and re-read every single high school math book because the questions on the test are basic.

Mechanical Comprehension tests your ability to figure out how things work and the way in which they are put together.

Automotive and Shop Information sees if you know anything about automotives. It also tests you to see if you know your way around the automotive shop.

Electronics Information will see if you know how electricity works and you will need to be able to apply it.

Mathematics Knowledge will be a mixture of high school math problems.  For this one you may want to look over some of your old high school textbooks.

General Science will consist of general science and biology problems.

Paragraph Comprehension will consist of them giving you a paragraph will all the information you will need in it and you will have to read the paragraph and get all the information you need out of the paragraph.  In this section it is key that you watch your time and make sure you don’t run out of time.

Assembling Objects consists of questions that are aimed at testing your understanding of the physical realm and also you ability to figure out how things work and the way on which they are put together.

As you can see the ASVAB test is a mixture of a lot of things and you will need to study hard in order to do well on the test.  If you just focus on one area you will not do very well so it is key that you study everything.  Just remember, the better you do on this test the more options you will have.
