All About The CNA Exam

CNA stands for Certified Nurses Assistant in the medical world. All of those wishing to become a CNA will need to take and pass the CNA exam in order to be able to obtain employment in this career field.

The CNA exam will test you on all of the basic fundamentals a nurses assistant should know as well as many of the skills a registered nurse would need as well. This is typically the first step a person takes towards become an RN so all of these things are necessary and useful which is why this exam is used as the qualification standard everywhere. To become a CNA you must pass the CNA exam.

The exam itself is comprised of two different sections, the written portion and the clinical portion. The written exam will consist of several multiple choice questions. This tends to be the easiest part of the test for most people since it covers only the very basic things you should know.

The clinical exam will require you to demonstrate some basic nurses skills hands on. This can be anything from moving a patient, giving medication or making a bed to checking vitals or just making sure you wash your hands when you are suppose to. This will be the first time you perform actions like this in front of someone outside the classroom setting so confidence in your abilities is key to passing this section.

To study for either section you will need to listen attentively during your classes and take good notes. Repeatedly going over these notes is the best way to really learn all the things you need to know. Take any chance you are given to practice your clinical skills so that you can get comfortable with these tasks and learn to do them efficiently and effectively.

For additional help you might also trying locating books on the topic at your local library or finding some good credible sources online as well. It is also good to purchase a study guide for test prep if you can find one that is reliable. All of this extra effort will ensure you do the best that you can when test time comes.

Keeping calm and stress free before and during your test will also greatly increase your chance of scoring well on the test. If you are too nervous to perform tasks in front of a few people who will be watching this may not be the right career field for you since you will be working with other medical staff and the public on a daily basis.  Getting your CNA certificate is worth it, since it opens up a whole world of opportunities.
