What Is An Average CNA Job Description
CNAs are an integral part of a heath care team. They support doctors and nurses in patient care and patient services. This job is always in demand and has a higher than average pay scale. CNAs are the front line employees in hospitals, nursing homes, and doctors offices. This is only a brief CNA job description.
If a CNA works in the hospital they might be responsible for taking direct care of patients. They will need to be able to do tasks like take blood pressures, weights, and temperatures. They take vitals periodically throughout the day and night. They are also responsible for getting the patients anything that they need such as water, pillows, blankets, etc. They might also be required to give bed baths and help with toileting and showers.
In a doctors office a CNA has different responsibilities than in a hospital. Although most times they will still be required to take vitals such as blood pressure and temperature, they might also need to do more advanced paperwork. They might be responsible for cleaning up the treatment rooms or filing records.
In a nursing home CNAs also take vitals such as temperature and blood pressure but they are also required to do a lot of hands on patient care. They give baths, showers, bed baths and change the bed when it is needed. In the nursing home there is a great deal of patient interaction and care. You will need to help patients with skin care, report to the nurse any problems, and give the patients bed pans.
CNAs also can work privately as home care assistants. They can work in homes giving the same care that they do in hospitals and nursing homes. These are sometimes called home health aides. In some areas there is even a separate certification for home health aides. You will need to check with your state to understand the CNA requirements.
Becoming a CNA is a big step. In order to do well in the profession you will need compassion, patience, and a love for taking care of people. You will also have to pass a CNA exam. As a CNA there are a wide variety of places you can work. A CNA job description includes all of these things.
