About the Oregon Permit Test

The Oregon permit driving test is made up of 35 total questions. Of those 35 questions, individuals will need to answer 28 of those questions correctly to pass the exam. This comes out to a minimum passing score of 80%.

Individuals must be at least 15 years of age to take the Oregon permit test. You can expect to follow these steps before and after taking the Oregon permit test:

  1. Fill out application form
  2. Apply for your permit in person
  3. Provide proper documentation
  4. Pass vision test
  5. Pass knowledge test
  6. Get your picture taken
  7. Pay fee ($24)
  8. Get your permit

Documentation Required

When applying for your permit at the Oregon DMV, you will need to provide proof of your name, age, and address. Typical documents you can use include:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Passport
  • Social Security Card
  • 1099 Form, W2 Statement or Paystub
  • Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship

In addition, you will typically need to have a parent or guardian present if you are under the age of 18.

After you receive your learners permit, you will need to complete some general requirements to get your full driver’s license. In the state of Oregon, you will need to complete 30 hours of drivers ed classroom hours and at least 50 hours of supervised driving hours.

Oregon Driving Test FAQs

There are a total of 35 questions on the Oregon permit test.

For the OR written test, you must answer at least 80% of the questions correctly, which comes out to a total of 28 questions.

You may apply for a permit in Oregon when you are at least 15 years old.

You can get your license in Oregon when you have waited at least 6 months after you received your permit.

You can get your license in Oregon when you have had the following supervised driving time: 50 hours (100 hours without driver education).

The minimum age for a driver’s license in Oregon is: 16

In Oregon you will have the following restrictions on your driver’s license –

Nighttime Restrictions: midnight – 5 a.m.

Passenger Restrictions: first 6 months–no passengers younger than 20; second 6 months–no more than 3 passengers younger than 20.

The Nighttime restrictions will be in place until you reach: 12 months with license or age 18.

The Passenger Restrictions will be in place until you reach the age of: 12 months with license or age 18.

In Oregon, driver education is required of license applicants younger than 18. However, it is waived for applicants who certify an additional 50 hours of supervised driving.

The night and passenger restrictions do not apply to the holder of a provisional driver license who is 18 or older.
