Saving Money With CLEP Testing
Clep testing has been used as a means to save time and money in pursuit of a college degree. It stands for College Level Examination Program. These are 33 different exams offered in varying subjects. These subjects are foreign language, history and social sciences, business, science and math and composition and literature. The tests cover the introductory levels of these courses, usually the equivalent to the first two years of college. The testing can be used for many different reasons. Some people just want to catch up in order to graduate on time, a home schooled student may have the knowledge and wish to demonstrate it, or the course may have been taken in an advanced high school course. Taking the test saves time since a class does not have to be attended.
There are websites that sell Clep exam guides to help with preparation. There is a comprehensive guide that covers all the available tests and has practice questions as well. There are individual course guides that can be downloaded right to the computer.
These guides do not replace the textbooks that would be used for the courses. The knowledge may be something the person has already had an interest in or may have from work, or from already knowing a language fluently. Doing well on these exams requires independent study time. There are many free college courses offered online and libraries, both online and offline, can help.
Practice, practice, practice. It cannot be overstated how essential this is. Along with the studying there has to be practice tests. These should be taken to show the level of knowledge gained. It will also promote a more relaxed feeling for the official test.
In order to register for clep testing it is necessary to find the nearest test center. There are approximately 1,600 available. A local one can be found online, give them a call and find out the procedure. Do so early and allow enough time to properly study the material and become confident with it.
