About the Missouri Permit Test

The Missouri permit driving test is made up of 25 total questions. Of those 25 questions, individuals will need to answer 20 of those questions correctly to pass the exam. This comes out to a minimum passing score of 80%.

Individuals must be at least 15 years of age to take the Missouri permit test. You can expect to follow these steps before and after taking the Missouri permit test:

  1. Visit an exam station
  2. Provide proper documentation
  3. Pass vision test
  4. Pass road signs test
  5. Pass written test
  6. Go to drivers license office and apply
  7. Bring parent or guardian for consent
  8. Provide proper documentation
  9. Pay fee ($4)
  10. Get your permit

Documentation Required

When applying for your permit at the Missouri DOR, you will need to provide proof of your name, age, and address. Typical documents you can use include:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Passport
  • Social Security Card
  • 1099 Form, W2 Statement or Paystub
  • Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship

In addition, you will typically need to have a parent or guardian present if you are under the age of 18.

After you receive your learners permit, you will need to complete some general requirements to get your full driver’s license. In the state of Missouri, you will need to complete 40 hours of drivers ed classroom hours and at least 40 hours of supervised driving hours.

There are a total of 25 questions on the Missouri permit test.

For the MO written test, you must answer at least 80% of the questions correctly, which comes out to a total of 20 questions

You may apply for a permit in Missouri when you are at least 15 years old.

You can get your license in Missouri when you have waited at least 6 months after you received your permit.

In Missouri you will have the following restrictions on your driver’s license –

Nighttime Restrictions: 1 a.m. – 5 a.m.

Passenger Restrictions: first 6 months—no more than 1 passenger younger than 19; thereafter, no more than 3 passengers younger than 19.

The Nighttime restrictions will be in place until you reach the age of: entire intermediate stage (min. age: 17, 11 mo.).
