About the Nebraska Permit Test

The Nebraska permit driving test is made up of 25 total questions. Of those 25 questions, individuals will need to answer 20 of those questions correctly to pass the exam. This comes out to a minimum passing score of 80%.

Individuals must be at least 14 years of age to take the Nebraska permit test. You can expect to follow these steps before and after taking the Nebraska permit test:

  1. Apply for your permit in person
  2. Provide proper documentation
  3. Pass vision test
  4. Pass knowledge test
  5. Get your LPE
  6. Complete drivers ed
  7. Apply for a SCP
  8. Pass driving test
  9. Present certificate to country treasurer
  10. Receive your SCP

Documentation Required

When applying for your permit at the Nebraska DMV, you will need to provide proof of your name, age, and address. Typical documents you can use include:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Passport
  • Social Security Card
  • 1099 Form, W2 Statement or Paystub
  • Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship

In addition, you will typically need to have a parent or guardian present if you are under the age of 18.

After you receive your learners permit, you will need to complete some general requirements to get your full driver’s license. In the state of Nebraska, you will need to complete 20 hours of drivers ed classroom hours and at least 50 hours of supervised driving hours.

There are a total of 25 questions on the Nebraska permit test.

For the NE written test, you must answer at least 80% of the questions correctly, which comes out to a total of 20 questions.

You may apply for a permit in Nebraska when you are at least 15 years old.

You can get your license in Nebraska when you have waited at least 6 months after you received your permit.

You can get your license in Nebraska when you have had the following supervised driving time: 50 hours, 10 of which must be at night (none with driver education).

In Nebraska you will have the following restrictions on your driver’s license –

Nighttime Restrictions: midnight – 6 a.m.

Passenger Restrictions: no more than 1 passenger younger than 19.

The Passenger Restrictions will be in place until you reach the age of: 6 months with license or 18.

In Nebraska, 14 year-olds who live 1.5 miles or more from school and who either live outside or attend school outside a metropolitan area may be issued a learner’s permit (called an “LPE permit”) and a limited license (called a “school permit”).

The LPE permit authorizes supervised driving for the purpose of preparing for the school permit, which allows driving to and from school independently or anyplace else while supervised by a parent or guardian.
