About the New Hampshire Driving Test

The New Hampshire permit driving test is made up of 40 total questions. Of those 40 questions, individuals will need to answer 32 of those questions correctly to pass the exam. This comes out to a minimum passing score of 80%.

Individuals must be at least 15.5 years of age to take the New Hampshire permit test. You can expect to follow these steps before and after taking the New Hampshire permit test:

  1. Complete drivers education
  2. Complete supervised driving
  3. Apply for your permit in person
  4. Provide proper documentation
  5. Pass vision test
  6. Pass knowledge test
  7. Schedule road test appointment
  8. Pass road test
  9. Pay fee ($50)
  10. Get your permit

Documentation Required

When applying for your permit at the New Hampshire DMV, you will need to provide proof of your name, age, and address. Typical documents you can use include:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Passport
  • Social Security Card
  • 1099 Form, W2 Statement or Paystub
  • Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship

In addition, you will typically need to have a parent or guardian present if you are under the age of 18.

After you receive your learners permit, you will need to complete some general requirements to get your full driver’s license. In the state of New Hampshire, you will need to complete 30 hours of drivers ed classroom hours and at least 40 hours of supervised driving hours.

The Passenger Restrictions will be in place until you reach the age of: 6 months with license or 18.

New Hampshire does not issue learner’s permits. At age 15.5 a person can drive while supervised by a licensed driver 25 or older.

License applicants who are younger than 18 must take driver education.
