Degree and Education Requirements in Maryland

The state of Maryland requires all CPA candidates to have their baccalaureate degrees. As well as earning their baccalaureate degree, candidates must complete 150 credit hours. This is significant because most colleges and universities award baccalaureate degrees after only 120 credit hours – students who wish to take the CPA after they graduate must take an additional 30 credit hours.

An additional requirement by the state of Maryland includes candidates taking 27 credit hours in accounting classes and 21 credit hours in business or other related courses. Candidates that are pursuing an accounting major should meet these requirements relatively easy.

Residency and Age Requirements in Maryland

Candidates who wish to take the CPA in the state of Maryland do not have to be United States citizens. As well as not having to be a U.S. citizen, candidates do not have to be a Maryland resident either. The state of Maryland has a minimum age requirement of 18 to sit for the CPA, so if you meet all the other requirements, you can take the CPA at whatever age you desire.

Candidates should make sure they are prepared to take the CPA exam the first time around because of how expensive it is. Maryland charges an application fee of $67. As well as paying an application fee, Maryland CPA candidates will also be required to pay $2000 for each section of the CPA.
