ACT Science Overview

The ACT science test gives students tons of trouble. This section is more like a reading comprehension section than a science section.

You will find that there are 3 categories covered on the ACT science section:

  1. Interpretation of Data (40-50%)
  2. Scientific Investigation (20-30%)
  3. Evaluation of Models, Inferences, & Experimental Results (25-35%)

Within those 3 categories, the ACT science questions are broken down into the following 3 formats:

  1. Data Representation (25-35%)
  2. Research Summaries (45-60%)
  3. Conflicting Viewpoints (15-20%)

You will have 35 minutes to complete the science section of the ACT.

There will be 6-7 passages with each passage including 5-8 questions. As you can see, this section should be treated more as a reading section.

Our ACT science prep above will help you learn how to do well on this section. You can also review our guide on studying for the ACT for additional information on creating a study plan.
