Hazardous materials are broadly defined as any products that may pose a risk to safety, health or property during transportation. CDL Pretest
A CDL pretest (or CDL pre test) is a must if you want to pass your CDL exam on the first try. If you are planning on operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV), you will have to pass a CDL test. Every state has their own set of policies and procedures to obtain your Commercial Drivers License (CDL). All of the states, however, have to follow a set of Federal Guidelines administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administraton. The purpose of the regulations is to insure that the operators (drivers) of large trucks and buses are qualified. CDL Test Overview
A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required by anyone who operates:
A vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of more than 26,000 pounds
A combination vehicle - where towing a vehicle with a GVWR of more than 10,000 pounds or a combination GVWR of more than 26,000 pounds
A vehicle intended to transport 16 or more people
A vehicle that carries hazardous materials (hazmat) in any amount requiring a placard

CDL License GroupsIn order for you to obtain a CDL license, you must determine which type of Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) you will be driving. The U.S. Department of Transportation has categorized vehicles into three classes or license groups. In addition to specifying a license group, you will also need to understand if there are specific endorsements that you will need based on the specific type of vehicle you plan on operating.
