GED Test Overview
The GED exam is a battery of five exams covering: Math, Social Studies, Science, Reading and Writing. The purpose of the exam is to assess whether a student has the academic skills that are typical of a recent high school graduate. To take the exam, you must be at least 16 years old, not currently enrolled in high school, and not possess a high school diploma. Your state may also have additional requirements.
There are a variety of ways available to you to prepare for your GED exams. Typically, student will prepare in a combination of three ways: at home/self study, classroom, and online. At home education is usually accomplished by studying from a GED preparation/study guide. Some students also prepare by watching GED educational TV shows usually airing on a PBS station. Classroom preparation courses are offered by local adult education centers, community colleges, high schools and literacy programs.
