PMP Prep Courses
Candidates who are studying for the PMP exam have many different resources at their disposal – practice questions, practice exams, and flashcards. While those are great resources, a PMP prep course may be the best option for some students to supplement those other free resources.
PMP prep courses will cover all subject matter that will be covered on the PMP exam. As well as covering all material that will be on the PMP exam, PMP prep courses will also complete the required 35 hours of project management education/training.
If candidates do not have the 35 required education/training hours, they will not be eligible to take the PMP exam. PMP prep courses should be looked at as an investment as candidates who pass the exam should be compensated for the completion of their PMP certificate.

In order to be eligible to take the PMP exam, candidates must meet certain requirements. The requirements to take the PMP exam fall into the following 3 categories – years of project management experience, hours spent leading or directing projects, and hours of project management education.
The PMP exam is unique in that there are different requirements for candidates depending on what degree they received while in college. Candidates who received a bachelor’s degree while in college are eligible to take the PMP exam with less project management experience.
PMP Requirements – Bachelor’s Degree
Candidates who received a bachelor’s degree in college are at an advantage when it comes to taking the PMP exam. Candidates have significantly less restrictions and should be able to apply to take the PMP exam quicker than candidates who have secondary degrees. Candidates who hold a bachelor’s degree need the following requirements to be eligible to take the PMP exam:
- 3 years of professional project management experience
- 4500 hours spent leading or directing projects
- 35 hours of project management education
Candidates can count any project management experience towards their 3 years of experience as long as it took place in a professional environment, even if the experience was unpaid. However, school and personal projects do not count towards the professional project management experience hours. The 35 hours of education can be met by participating in a workshop, training session, or taking a PMP prep course.
PMP Requirements – Non-Bachelor’s Degree Holders
Candidates who have a high school diploma or an associate’s degree are still eligible to take the PMP exam, but they have some more requirements that must be met. Candidates who hold one of the degrees listed above or a similar degree must complete the following requirements to be eligible to take the PMP exam:
- 5 years of professional project management experience
- 7500 hours spent leading or directing projects
- 35 hours of project management education
|PMP Exam Requirements||Bachelor's Degree||Non-Bachelor's Degree|
|Professional PM Experience||3 Years||5 Years|
|Hours Leading Projects||4500 Hours||7500 Hours|
|Project Management Education||35 Hours||35 Hours|
