BoostPrep is our choice for best overall HESI prep course. BoostPrep offers 2 main HESI courses:

  1. HESI A2 Core – $49
  2. HESI A2 Pro – $59

Both courses cover the following subjects:

  • HESI Math
  • HESI Vocab
  • HESI Grammar
  • HESI Reading

The biggest difference is that the HESI Pro Course also covers the following subjects:

  • HESI Anatomy and Physiology
  • HESI Biology
  • HESI Chemistry
  • HESI Physics

Regardless of which HESI prep course you choose, all prep courses offer a complete prep system with the following:

  • 89 lessons
  • 65 quizzes
  • 24 full-length practice exams
  • Detailed study guides
  • 250 vocab flashcards

We liked how BoostPrep organized the course. They split the course into the following:

  1. Courses
  2. Lessons
  3. Topics
  4. Quizzes
  5. Practice Exams

For example, if you wanted to work on math, you would enter the “HESI Math” portion of the course. Within this specific course you would find lessons and specific topics you can work on. Each topic has quizzes you can complete to ensure you are learning the material.

When you are ready, you can take a full-length practice exam. All of the practice exams are timed. As well as being timed, the practice questions are written in the style of the exam which really gives you a great feel for the actual exam.

BoostPrep HESI Course Practice Exam Example

All practice questions and exams include detailed answer explanations. These are great for helping you learn the information and helping you understand hard concepts. Our team really liked the detailed answer explanations.

BoostPrep can be used on any device (mobile, desktop, tablet). BoostPrep also offers a 100% pass guarantee – if you do not pass your HESI exam, you can get your money back or use the course again for free. We did not see a lot of other providers who offered something like this.

Nursing.com offers their HESI prep course as part of their subscription based plans. The most popular subscription plan costs $39 per month and students can access the courses for as long they want to.

Students can also purchase other subscription based plans that include additional NCLEX materials (great if you plan on taking the NCLEX).

The HESI prep course includes 49 lessons and 10 PDF cheat sheets for students to download and study from. The course uses videos as the main method of teaching. These videos are great quality and are not too long – they keep your attention and make it easy to learn difficult concepts.

Students will get access to other nursing courses and materials when they subscribe to Nursing.com. There are practice questions included in the subscription, but they are not HESI specific. There are also not any full-length HESI practice exams to review – which our team saw as a downfall.

Nursing.com Pros and Cons

Study.com offers their HESI prep course to students for a price of $59 per month. Students can take the course for however long it takes them to complete it – just keep in mind that you will be charged $59 per month. One nice thing about this monthly charge is that you have access to everything on the website – a great opportunity to learn a new skill.

The prep course includes 239 lessons, hundreds of practice questions, and practice quizzes after each lesson. In order to keep students more engaged, the lessons average 8 minutes in length. The course does not offer any full-length practice tests, which our team found somewhat disappointing.

The practice quizzes after each lesson are a nice touch and all questions have answer explanations.

The course from study.com is a well-designed course and a good start for anyone looking to prepare for their HESI exam. It is reasonably priced but that depends on how long it takes you to complete the course.

If you take 3 months to complete the course, you will be paying $180, which is a little pricey. The bite-sized lessons are a great feature and will be beneficial to any student.

Study.com Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Bite Sized Lessons
  • Good Amount of Content

Cons

  • Price (Can Get Expensive)
  • No Full-Length Practice Exams

Other HESI Courses We Tested

Here is a summary of the reviews we conducted for other HESI prep course providers.

ExamEdge – ExamEdge specializes in practice tests. They offer various bundles of practice tests. Students can purchase 1 HESI practice test for $21.95. The practice test bundles go all the way up to 40 practice tests for $275. This course is a great option for those looking for practice tests. It seems relatively expensive when purchasing practice tests when comparing it to other courses like BoostPrep that includes various study materials and 24 practice tests for $49.

Evolve – The HESI admission assessment book is a unique prep course because it is mainly based out of the book, but they also offer an online aspect. Students who purchase this book are given an online access code and can access some additional practice questions and tests on the website. The book is available for $41. While this is more of a HESI prep book versus a prep course, it is still a good option.

Our Testing Process

We have a process in place when reviewing prep courses. Our process is:

  1. Finding All Providers – we make a list of all the providers offering a product or service that fits the needs of our review
  2. Narrowing Down Providers – we then look at the different providers and decide which ones we want to take a deeper dive on
  3. Enrolling in Course – once narrowed down, we enroll in these courses and sift our way through them.
  4. Assigning a Score – we then provide a score to each course based on different criteria.
  5. Writing the Review – a team member will then craft up a review to best inform our users on each prep course.
  6. Updating Reviews – we are always monitoring changes in the marketplace. If something significant changes with a course, we will update our reviews accordingly.

The factors that we pay special attention to when reviewing courses include:

  1. Price
  2. Content
  3. Questions
  4. Features

After spending a significant amount of time inside of these courses, we review the factors above and assign a score to each provider. We independently review all the providers and make sure to put our users’ needs first. You can read more about our independent review process for more information.
